چکیده

This article contains data on the variation in several physiological parameters of red blood cells (RBCs) donated by eligible glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficient donors during storage in standard blood bank conditions compared to control, G6PD sufficient (G6PD(+)) cells. Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, cell fragility and membrane exovesiculation were measured in RBCs throughout the storage period, with or without stimulation by oxidants, supplementation of N-acetylcysteine and energy depletion, following incubation of stored cells for 24 h at 37 °C. Apart from cell characteristics, the total or uric acid-dependent antioxidant capacity of the supernatant in addition to extracellular potassium concentration was determined in RBC units. Finally, procoagulant activity and protein carbonylation levels were measured in the microparticles population. Further information can be found in "Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficient subjects may be better "storers" than donors of red blood cells" [1].

Prevalence of Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency among Male Donors in Shiraz, Southern Iran

The overall incidence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency in Iranian population is estimated around 10%-14.9%. G6PD deficiency is an X-linked disorder and 80% of donors are usually male. At present, donors’ blood is not routinely screened for G6PD deficiency in Iran blood bank where for detecting such enzyme deficiency, reliance is placed on pre-donation data. Thus, the G6PD ...

عوارض تزریق خون فاقد آنزیم G6PD در کودکان

Introduction & Objective: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common metabolic disease of red blood cells. It affects about 35 millions people in the entire world. Its incidence in IRAN is estimated to be 10-14.9%. Transfusion of G6PD deficient blood produces many untoward side effects in recipients. Despite the high incidence of the disease and such risks, blood don...

MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST PREVALENT MUTATION OF GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE (G6PD) GENE IN DEFICIENT PATIENTS IN GILAN PROVINCE

Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) is a cytosolic enzyme which its main function is to produce NADPH in the red blood cells by controlling the step from Glucose-6-Phosphate to 6-Phospho gluconate in the pentose phosphate pathway. G6PD deficiency is the most common X-chromosome linked hereditary enzymopathy in the world, that result in reduced enzyme activity and more than 125 different mu...

Hemolysis Induced by Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency and Its Association with Sex in Children

Background: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common enzyme disorder in human. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of G6PD deficiency among children and evaluate its association with ABO/Rh blood groups. Method: Blood samples of 3401 asymptomatic children were analyzed and compared with 317 children who were admitted to hospital because of hemolys...

Metabolic Linkage and Correlations to Storage Capacity in Erythrocytes from Glucose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase-Deficient Donors

Objective In glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, decreased NADPH regeneration in the pentose phosphate pathway and subnormal levels of reduced glutathione result in insufficient antioxidant defense, increased susceptibility of red blood cells (RBCs) to oxidative stress, and acute hemolysis following exposure to pro-oxidant drugs and infections. Despite the fact that redox diseq...
